Wiltshire and Swindon Biological Records Centre

Volunteer at WSBRC

The WSBRC relies enormously on volunteers. If you would like to make your mark and utilise your skills to help promote biological recording in Wiltshire and Swindon, we are looking for suitable volunteers to assist us with our work. Our volunteers cover a range of activities depending on their skills, experience and interests. Tasks range from data entry, admin, writing website content and GIS mapping work. Volunteers are given full training and support.

All volunteer roles are office normally based at our office in Devizes, during normal working hours Monday to Friday.

We ask for a minimum commitment level for each role to ensure both volunteers and the WSBRC benefit. Vacancies are advertised on both the WSBRC and WWT websites and also specific roles may be occasionally advertised more widely using Guardian Jobs, CJS etc.

See below for current vacancies:

Data Entry Volunteers

The WSBRC has over one and a half million species records on its main database, and receives over a hundred thousand records from volunteer recorders each year, with records being received on a daily basis.

The data varies from single records of a species seen in a local park to full site surveys detailing hundreds of sightings.

A potential data entry volunteer would be passionate about wildlife and environmental issues and ideally have broad wildlife knowledge, be computer literate and have excellent attention to detail. Volunteers are required for one or more days per week for a minimum of three months.
